Yohji Yamamoto nasce a Tokyo nel 1943, è considerato il maestro della moda sin dal suo debutto nel 1977, anno in cui si afferma come uno degli stilisti più influenti. Collabora con marchi come Adidas, Hermès.
L'artista  che rivoluziona l'approccio con il mondo del design, ama seguire e  portare a seguito  l'intero processo dall'idea creativa al prodotto finito curando i tessuti e modelli nei minimi particolari. Abiti dai tagli insoliti, prevalgono i colori scuri, il nero fa da padrone alla maggior parte delle collezioni.
 Tra i tanti successi in ambito commerciale ed artistico si affianca la vasta retrospettiva sullo stilista a Londra presso il Victoria and Albert Museum che ospita 60 delle sue creazioni ed 80 manichini, bozzetti, schizzi e disegni che ripercorrono le varie collezioni per celebrare un'arte intramontabile.
